The Present Tense
1 The Simple Present Tense
This is the form of the verb which is used to denote an action or state of being at the moment of speaking
Structure: S + v 1\5 + Ow .
Example: Rohan drinks tea
• To express universal truths
Example. The sun sets in the west
• To express future action about which a decision has already been taken.
Example: The train arrives in an hour's time.
• To express surprise and wishes in sentences.
Example: Here comes my daughter on the stage.

2. The Present Continuous Tense
When the simple present tense of the verb 'to be' is used with a present participle then we form the present continuous tense. This tense shows the continuity of an action or state of being.
It is used:
●To denote an action going on at the time of speaking.
Example: The butterflies are flying, the goats are grazing, the sun is shining.
●For a temporary action which may not be happening at the time of speaking.
Example: Praveen is reading 'Heidi'. (but she is not reading at this moment.)
● For an action that we have already decided to take in the near future.
Example: We are travelling to Ooty this summer.
